How It Works

The practical consequence is that if your goal was a single animated WebP to replace an animated GIF on a website, this tool does not produce it, and you should know that before converting. What it gives you instead is the raw frames as WebP images, which is useful if you intend to reassemble them elsewhere or only wanted the individual frames.
WebP encoding itself depends on the browser, and every current browser supports it, so the encoding step is reliable. Only the first eight frames are shown as previews on the page, but the ZIP contains every frame that was decoded.
