About the Transparent Background Maker
This makes the background of an image transparent by removing a single colour. When you add an image, the tool samples the top-left corner as a first guess at the background colour, and you can click anywhere on the preview to pick a different one. Every pixel close enough to that colour is then made transparent, and the result is saved as a PNG — the format that supports transparency.
Two controls shape the result. A tolerance slider, from 5 to 160 and defaulting to 45, sets how close a pixel must be to the picked colour to be removed — low keeps only near-exact matches, high removes a wider range. An edge-softening option, on by default, fades the pixels near the boundary rather than cutting hard, which reduces the jagged fringe around the kept subject.

How It Works
The tool measures the colour distance between each pixel and the colour you picked, and makes pixels transparent when they fall within the tolerance; with softening on, pixels just outside the tolerance are partially faded rather than left solid. This is colour keying, and understanding that is the key to using it well — and to knowing when it will not work.
It works cleanly when the background is a single, even colour that is distinct from the subject: a logo on white, a product on a plain studio backdrop, a graphic on a flat fill. It struggles, and often fails, when the background is a photograph, a gradient, or any colour that also appears in the subject. Keying out sky blue will also key out blue eyes or a blue shirt, because the tool matches colours, not objects — it has no understanding of what the subject is. This is not the AI-based cut-out that separates a person from a complex scene; it is a precise, predictable colour remover, which is a different and simpler thing.
The output PNG keeps whatever the keying produced, so if the tolerance was too high the subject will have holes, and too low will leave a halo of background colour. Because you can re-run freely, the practical approach is to converge on the right tolerance in two or three attempts rather than expecting the first result to be perfect.

A small online seller has product photos shot against a plain white sheet and wants them cut out to sit on the marketplace's white listing pages without a visible box. Because the background is a single even colour, keying it out works well. Doing it locally keeps photographs tied to the seller's supplier and stock off an external service.
